Types of Food Your Fish Can Feed On

Monday 31 May 2010 @ 3:14 am

pFor amateur fishkeepers, it is important that they know everything they can before bringing home a fish. They should know what food to give to their fish once they get home. Unlike in the wild, fish can find their own meals and feed on insects and other aquatic plants. In an aquarium setting, however, fish are dependent on their human friends. Hence, it is important that beginners learn of the different types of fish food available out there./p
pa href=http://www.suburbanreef.com/food-feeders.html target=_blankFish food/a comes in three basic forms. These include live, frozen and dry fish food.nbsp; There are fish foods that are preferred by other fish species. But any of these can be given to the fish for variety purposes. Fish, like humans, need variations in their diet and they obtain essential nutrients and vitamins from different food sources. Fish foods are mostly purchased froma href=http://www.suburbanreef.com/aquarium-filters.html target=_blank aquarium supplies /astores./p
pThe first type of fish food is live food. Live fish food can include a helping of fresh and wriggling earthworms, newly-hatched brine shrimp and feeder fish. They are great sources of protein essential for development of healthy muscle tissues. This food type is a gourmet treat your fish will enjoy. However, live fish food are very expensive and can be hard to find every day./p
pAnother type is the frozen fish food. This consists of live organisms like bloodworms, brine shrimps and mosquito larvae that have been processed and freeze-dried. They are good protein sources and can be purchased readily at a lower cost. If you canrsquo;t get live fish, these can be used to give the fish a varied diet./p
pLastly, we have dry fish food. Dry fish food consists of flakes or pellets. Among all fish food, they are the most widely used.nbsp; Flakes and pellets can be sprinkled in thea href=http://www.suburbanreef.com/aquariums.html target=_blank aquarium /aduring feeding time. Since flakes float, they are preferred by surface-dwelling fish. Pellets are heavier and can slowly sink at the bottom. Fish that prefer to stay at the bottom of the tank can eat these food items./p

Freshwater Aquarium

Sunday 30 May 2010 @ 4:12 am

pFreshwater fish are perhaps the easiest fish to care for in comparison to saltwater species because they are generally hardier fish. A basic freshwaterfish tank set up will be required . You will need a fish tank, some rocks or shingle or sand to line bottom of the tank. You will also need a filter, and some light. When choosing fish, it is most important to make sure the fish are compatible . Not only do they need to be compatible for water temperature and P.H. , but they should also have eat the same food requirement . It is best to keep the fish relatively the same size. It has been said that if a fish is small enough to fit in anothers mouth, that is generally where it ends up. Sodo notbedemoralisedif this occurs.Even fish that have been housed for several months have been known to disappearon sometimes. It is a good practice when fish keeping to keep a diary of effents so you knownbsp; exactly that has happened in your a title=Fish Tanks href=http://www.howtokeepfish.info/fish-tanks/ target=_blankfish tank/a.nbsp; br / br /Feeding two times a day is important for freshwater fish. Feed only a small amount that can be consumed inside the first two to five minutes. Over feeding is a common mistake by the novice fish keepers. Any overabundance food should be lifted from the tank with a net if conceivable, as it will become debris and after not to long dirty the tank. Your freshwater aquarium water should be tested and checked every week . Any discrepancies in P.H. and water temperature should be made goodas soon as possibe in order to minimize stress caused to the fish. Stress is significant because it causes illness in fish. It is imperative to keep a check on the activity and overall well being of the fish in an aquarium. The signs of stress will be fairly obvious. Slow moving or lethargic looking fish will require a stress coat that can be brought from an aquatic centeror on line . Try to avoid overcrowding your tank. This should help to minimise the amount of stress caused to the fish. br / br /Change about a third of the water in the aquarium on a regular basis , because this type of change will create the least amount of disturbance to the fish and other inhabitants. This will need to be done every a minimum of once a month . Use either a bucket or a siphon to remove the water from the tank . Try to remove any loose or floating debris at this time. When adding the new water to the aquarium, make sure that it is within approximately two degrees of the tank water. The sides of the aquarium should be scrubbed on a regular basis to remove an algae build up. Again be careful not to upset the fish. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling the aquarium. Lastly , check the manufacturers recommendation on filters and change them as required . Filters collect any fish waste or left over food. They will not function as needed unless they are clean. br / br /a title=How to Keep Fish href=http://www.howtokeepfish.info/ target=_blankHow to Keep Fish/a when setting up an aquarium It is recommended to select hardy fish for a new tank. These fish ideal for aquariums, they can with stand higher nitrite levels that are present in a new aquarium. Choose freshwater a title=Aquarium Fish href=http://www.howtokeepfish.info/aquarium-fish/ target=_blankaquarium fish/a like danios, barbs, gouramis, and live bearers. Do not be tempted to introduce more than three to four small fish per week. Acclimation times vary per species , so check with your retail merchant before introducing any more fish to your freshwater tank ./p

Will Just Any Animal Hospital Do?

Saturday 29 May 2010 @ 4:24 am

pWhen your animal is sick, hurt or just in need of routine care you need a good a title=animal hospital maryland href=http://www.animalhospitalmaryland.com/ target=_blankanimal hospital Maryland/a where you can take him or her and get appropriate medical attention. It is always a good idea to check into a good care facility before you make the decision to take your pet there. There are many things that you will want to look for in a good animal hospital. Here are some tips on things to look for in an animal hospital to help you in making the right choice.br /br /Make sure the animal hospitals staff is helpful and attentive.nbsp; A staff that is both knowledgeable and helpful is a sign of a good animal hospital.nbsp; The animal hospital you choose should also be open 24/7.nbsp; Many have regular daytime hours and are open after hours for emergency care.nbsp; This is a good setup because you never know when an emergency will occur and your pet will need immediate veterinary care.br /br /The hospital should be focused on wellness care. You should be able to get valuable information and suggestions from the hospital on how to keep your pet healthy. This includes access to immunizations, options in medications for heart worm and fleas, and the ability to ask questions and get answers to your questions about caring for your pet and keeping him or her healthy.br /br /The hospital you choose should also offer surgical services.nbsp; It will be much easier for you and your pet if your animal hospital performs surgeries on site and your pet needs an operation.nbsp; The hospital should have all the equipment that is necessary to monitor and care for a pet both during and after an operation.nbsp; It should also provide care around the clock for animals that must stay there after surgery while they are recovering.br /br /A good animal hospital should also offer optional services related to pet safety, such as micro chipping services that are performed on site.nbsp; Information about these safety services should be available, and you should be able to use them if you decide to have your pet micro chipped, for example.br /br /The hospital should have veterinary products available for you to buy and take home. You should see a display of products that you can buy or the staff should be able to help you find what you need on site so you do not have to make multiple trips to various locations to get the products you need for your pet.br /br /This might not be something you want to think about, but eventually you will need veterinary hospice or euthanasia services.nbsp; It would be helpful if the animal hospital you choose offers these services.nbsp; Your pet will probably feel more comfortable during his or her final days if care is being provided by familiar people.nbsp; Youll be more comfortable too, because youll know that your pet is being cared for by people you already know and trust./p
pChoosing an animal hospital for your pet is a big decision.nbsp; Many people take cost or location into consideration, but those things are not always the most important things to focus on.nbsp; You should check out the type of care the animal hospital offers and make sure that the one you choose is properly equipped to provide the best possible care to your pet./p
